How to use your health insurance

Each course of treatment at Capio Private Hospital is unique and customized to the individual patient. The following is a general guide and your course may vary:

You notice either physical or psychological symptoms that affect your daily life and seek professional assessment from your general practitioner. These may be physical challenges such as knee pain, back problems, shoulder stiffness, migraines, stress, depression, sleep problems or similar. Based on your symptoms and your consultation, your doctor will decide what to do next. Most often, the doctor will make a referral for further examination or for a specialist examination. The referral can be uploaded to the cloud or sent directly to a healthcare professional. Only you and healthcare professionals can access your referral. In some specialties, you do not need a referral to be seen by a specialist, e.g. eye and ear, nose and throat specialists.
If the public healthcare system offers long waiting times or a lack of treatment options, activating your health insurance can be a way to access faster assessment and treatment.
If you have health insurance, you can contact your insurance company and ask about your terms for having your conditions assessed at Capio Private Hospital.
After insurance approval, you will be guided to a suitable specialist and a time will be set for your first consultation. Here you can usually choose Capio Private Hospital as your treatment center. We are nationwide with hospitals in Aalborg, Aarhus, Viborg, Odense and Hellerup.
