Accurate and gentle examination of joint damage
MR arthrography is used when there is suspicion of damage inside the joint that cannot always be seen on a regular MRI scan.
Among other things, the study shows that:
- Damage to the joint lip (labrum)
- Cartilage damage
- Ligament injuries
- Wear changes
- Other structural changes in the joint
In order to offer you MR arthrography, you must be referred by your own doctor or a specialist.
The advantages of MR arthrography
The advantage of MR arthrography is that the contrast fluid is injected directly into the joint, which makes even minor injuries and changes more visible in the images. The examination provides more detailed images than a regular MRI scan of the joint and can reveal minor tears and lesions that would otherwise be difficult to detect. This provides a more accurate basis for planning the right treatment. MR arthrography is a gentle and targeted examination, and the MRI scan itself is painless. However, you may experience slight pressure or tension in the joint after the contrast injection.
