Muscle nodules are estrogen-dependent. They can therefore grow during pregnancy and will often shrink after menopause. If muscle nodules cause symptoms, they must be treated, otherwise they do not generally require treatment. Symptoms can include a feeling of heaviness, pressure symptoms and frequent urination, but actual pain is less common. In some cases, the condition can also cause bleeding disorders if the fibroid is located in relation to the lining of the uterus.

The typical treatment will be surgery to remove the muscle nodules, and in rare cases it may be necessary to remove the uterus.
