Neurophysiology is the medical specialty that deals with the physiology of the nervous system. At Capio Privathospital, we offer ENG (electroneurography) and EMG (electromyography), both of which are measurement methods that can be used to examine your nervous system. The measurements can indicate if there is a disease in the nervous system or if there is a nerve entrapment.

We take good care of you

Using either small stick-on electrodes or small needle electrodes, our specialist doctors perform the examination. Some people experience some discomfort from the needles or feel soreness in the days afterwards, which is completely normal. Our experienced staff will help and guide you through the procedure, so you feel comfortable every step of the way.

In order to have an EMG/ENG examination at Capio Private Hospital, you must have a referral from the doctor who will be performing the examination prior to the examination. Neurophysiological treatments

EMG (electromyography)

With electromyography (EMG) we can examine the electrical activity of the muscles. The examination makes it possible to detect disease conditions in the muscle or the nerves that supply the muscle. Examples include cases of nerve entrapment, muscle disease, inflammatory conditions in muscles and nerves, etc.

The examination is not completely painless, but the experience varies greatly from person to person. Always let your doctor know if you're nervous about the exam and we'll do our best to put you at ease.

ENG (electroneurography)

An ENG is a nerve conduction study of nerve pathways in the arms and/or legs. Small shocks are delivered from the electrodes and nerve function is read from this. With an ENG, you can check for nerve inflammation, pinching and muscle disorders, for example.

ENG can be performed with both electrodes and needles. The treatment we offer you will depend on which disease you are being examined for. Although the examination is completely harmless, it can be uncomfortable for some people. Always tell your doctor if you are uncomfortable with the examination.
