In some cases, excess skin around the mouth may be so pronounced that surgery may be a solution. During the procedure, the excess skin at the corners of the mouth is removed and the skin is then sewn together.
The surgery is best suited for people who are slim and have loose skin around the corners of the mouth. If you have thick and inelastic skin around the mouth, the surgery is not suitable.

Before surgery
Before the operation, you will have a preliminary examination with the surgeon. Here, you will be informed about the operation, the expected result and the complications that may arise afterwards.
You are welcome to bring a friend or family member to the preliminary examination. At least one week must pass from the preliminary examination to the surgery if the procedure is considered purely cosmetic.
The surgery itself
The purpose of the surgery is to remove excess skin around the mouth. A vertical incision is made corresponding to the excess skin and fat at the corners of the mouth, and the excess skin is removed. The incision follows the natural lines of the skin, after which the skin is stitched together and a plaster is placed over the wounds.
The operation is performed under local anesthesia, possibly supplemented with a “rush” (superficial anesthesia with painkillers and sedatives through a drip) and lasts approximately 30 minutes.
After surgery
After the operation, you will be observed until you are sufficiently well and can then usually go home.
You must arrange your own transportation home from the hospital and are not allowed to drive for 24 hours after the operation if you have received additional anesthesia in the form of "intoxication".
In the days following surgery, swelling and discoloration in the surgical area will often occur, which is completely normal. These symptoms are most pronounced in the days following surgery and will gradually subside over 1-2 weeks.
The surgical wound is closed with stitches, which are removed approximately 7 days after the operation.
