Before surgery

Before the surgery, you will have a preoperative consultation with the plastic surgeon, during which you will be informed about the procedure, the expected outcome, and possible complications. You must follow the instructions you receive regarding medication and preparation, including stopping certain pain relievers and dietary supplements prior to the surgery. It is also recommended that you follow general advice regarding diet, smoking, alcohol, and exercise to ensure your body is in the best possible condition before the procedure.

The surgery itself

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. During the procedure, the tight bands of connective tissue that pull the nipple inward are cut, which also involves cutting the milk ducts. The goal is to release the nipple so that it protrudes more.

After surgery

After the surgery, you can usually be discharged after 1–2 hours. It is normal to experience tenderness, slight swelling, and discoloration in the days following the procedure. The surgical incision is covered with adhesive strips, and the sutures are usually removed after about 14 days. You can gradually resume daily activities, but should avoid strenuous movements for a period of time.
