Breast development in men can be treated
Gynecomastia is a condition in which a man’s breast tissue is enlarged in one or both breasts. The condition is usually harmless, but it can cause tenderness, discomfort, or affect how a person feels about their body. Breast enlargement can occur as a result of hormonal changes, medication, illness, or for no apparent reason.
In some people, breast enlargement consists primarily of glandular tissue, while in others it also includes fatty tissue or excess skin. Therefore, treatment is tailored to each individual and may consist of liposuction, removal of glandular tissue, or a combination of several methods.
Before surgery, you will be examined by a plastic surgeon. During this consultation, you will discuss your concerns, your health, and your expectations for the outcome. At the same time, the surgeon will assess which treatment is best for you and whether it is necessary to investigate a possible underlying cause first.
Is surgery an option for you?
Surgery may be an option if the breast tissue does not disappear on its own and you experience physical or cosmetic discomfort. During the initial consultation, the plastic surgeon will assess, among other things, the size of the breast, the elasticity of the skin, and the distribution of glandular and fatty tissue.
It is important to have realistic expectations. The purpose of the surgery is to reduce breast volume and create a flatter, more harmonious breast contour. The final result depends, among other things, on your starting point, the surgical method chosen, and how your body heals.
