Quick access to professional urologists

Urology deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the urinary tract (kidney, ureter, bladder and urethra) in men and women, as well as diseases of the male genitalia.

Urological diseases can be a huge burden on living the life you want. They can be related to incontinence, erectile dysfunction, pain and bleeding. Whatever your symptoms, our urologists take them seriously and are aware that urological disorders can be associated with both taboo and shame.

We have experience with a wide range of urological diseases

At Capio Private Hospital, you will always receive a thorough examination by one of our urology experts, which gives us the best basis for offering you the right treatment. We examine and treat for prostate disorders, including prostate cancer, and for infection, polyps and other problems in the urinary tract.

Urology treatments at Capio

Prostate disorders

The prostate, which is the medical term for the bladder neck gland, is located under the bladder and surrounds the urethra just above the bladder sphincter. As the prostate grows with age, it can partially or completely obstruct the urethra. The condition can become very bothersome and cause a range of symptoms, including nocturnal urination, dribbling, cystitis and difficulty emptying the bladder.

Prostate genes can be treated with medication in many cases, but some require surgery, depending on the symptoms and examination results. During surgery, the excess prostate tissue is removed if the prostate is larger, or the prostate is cut if the prostate is small or tight to reduce urinary symptoms.

Blood in urine

There are many reasons for experiencing blood in the urine, including bladder or kidney disease, and in rarer cases, it can be a sign of prostate cancer. At Capio Privathospital, we offer a thorough and specialized examination for blood in the urine so you can move forward with the right treatment.

Urinary tract infection (e.g. cystitis)

The urinary tract is usually sterile, except for the outer 2-3 cm of the urethra, where common skin and gut bacteria are present. Bacteria in the bladder are usually unimportant and by consuming plenty of fluids, you will flush the bacteria out with your urine. Only if the amount of bacteria in your urine is very high and you have symptoms of cystitis, such as burning during urination, is it recommended to start treatment with antibiotics. Urinary tract infections affect women more often than men due to their shorter urethra.

Urinary problems (including incontinence)

Incontinence, which refers to a reduced or inability to control urination, is seen in both men and women, but is more common in women. There can be many causes of urinary incontinence, and in women it can be caused by prolapse or prolapse of the bladder and/or uterus.

For some, bladder training will help to bridge the gap to a more normal urination pattern. Pelvic floor exercises will also have a positive effect for many. In other cases, medication or surgery may be the right solution. Our experienced urologists will help you find the treatment that best suits your specific urinary problems.

Foreskin constriction

At Capio, you can be examined and treated for phimosis by one of our experienced urology specialists.

You can read more about phimosis here.

Cystoscopy

A cystoscopy is a binocular examination of the mucous membranes of the bladder and urethra. The examination can be performed either on an outpatient or inpatient basis. The outpatient examination lasts about 5 minutes, but you should allow extra time for preparation and completion. For an inpatient cystoscopy, the cystoscopy is performed under general anesthesia and takes about ½-1 hour. The doctor will inform you about the results of the examination and any further course of action.

Condyloma removal

Condyloma is an STI that is transmitted through sexual intercourse. In men, condylomas are typically located on the penis or scrotum, around the rectum and sometimes in the urethra. The purpose of surgery is to remove the condylomas and cure the STD so you don't spread the infection to others. Multiple treatments may be necessary to ensure the disease is gone.

Urine flow measurement

Urine flow measurement is an examination of the strength of the urine stream, the volume of urine and the duration of urination, all of which can help determine the cause of your urinary tract problems. During the test, you urinate into a funnel that is connected to a measuring device. The bladder is then scanned with ultrasound to check if you empty your bladder completely when you urinate. There is no discomfort or pain associated with the examination.

Urodynamic examination

A urodynamic examination is used to measure bladder function. The test measures how much your bladder can hold, how the bladder contracts during urination and how much the abdominal muscles affect urination. You should attend the examination with the urge to urinate, or alternatively, you can arrive early for your appointment and take fluids at the hospital.

Scrotal disorders (water hernia, seminal hernia and varicose veins)

Scrotal disorders are a relatively common condition in men. At Capio, our skilled urologists can help you with examination and treatment for water hernia, seminal hernia and varicose vein hernia.

You can read more about the different types of hernias here.

Stones in the urinary tract

Stones in the urinary bladder are often caused by poor drainage and emptying of the bladder. At Capio, you can be treated for the condition with the aim of removing the stones to ensure proper drainage from the kidney to the bladder. It will also aim to remove the pain that may be associated with having the stones.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and lasts around 1-3 hours. The doctor guides a scope (a tube with light and optics) through the urethra up to the bladder. Through the scope, the doctor can both crush and/or remove the stone.

Sterilization

At Capio, we offer male sterilization, which is a small but irreversible procedure via the scrotum that prevents a man from being able to impregnate a woman.

You can read more about sterilization here.

Curvature of the penis

Curvature of the penis can be a congenital condition in some cases, but the condition most commonly occurs during life as a result of Peyronie's disease, an inflammatory condition. It will typically cause erectile dysfunction and can be very painful. Our urologists will help you assess your case and find a treatment that can reduce your discomfort and improve your quality of life.

Erectile dysfunction (impotence)

Erection problems

Erectile dysfunction is a major inconvenience and obstacle to a man living the life he wants. In addition, erectile dysfunction can be a symptom of a medical condition or other bodily dysfunctions that should be investigated. That's why it's important to have your erectile dysfunction checked by a professional urologist. At Capio, our urologists are experienced in diagnosing and treating the many different causes of erectile dysfunction.

You can read more about erectile dysfunction here

Delayed testicular descent

If you have undescended testicles, it means that one or both testicles have not descended into the scrotum. The condition is not harmless as it increases the risk of infertility and testicular cancer. Therefore, it is important that the condition is treated by specialized doctors. Contact your local Capio branch to learn more about failure to descend. You will also be able to find out where we offer surgery for the condition in children and from what age.

Back surgery at Capio

I had lower back surgery at Capio Hellerup over a year ago. I have been incredibly happy with the treatment I received during my hospitalization by both doctors and nurses and the follow-ups they gave me. Huge praise from here.

Hip replacement surgery

I had surgery on Wednesday, December 13th at Capio Aalborg and despite the circumstances, I had a good stay where I got answers to all my questions. I met a staff with great competence and empathy, so I can only give my best recommendations.
