Varicose veins

Varicose veins are tortuous, enlarged veins typically found on the legs. Varicose veins occur because the valves in the veins are defective, causing blood to flow "backwards". This causes blood pressure to rise in the veins, resulting in bulges or 'knots'.

The disease can cause discomfort in the form of heaviness, itching, restlessness and fatigue in the leg, as well as swelling and, in the worst cases, eczema and ulcers on the shin. The tendency to develop varicose veins is hereditary.

Varicose veins are harmless in themselves, but treatment may be considered if there is a lot of discomfort.

Varicose veins - foam treatment

At Capio, we offer three different types of varicose vein treatment. Foam therapy is one of the treatment options. The aim is to inject foam into and destroy the large superficial vein that causes the varicose veins. The injection is usually not painful and will not usually feel uncomfortable. Varicose veins - thermal treatment inside the vein (laser or radiofrequency)

At Capio, we offer three different types of treatment for varicose veins. Thermal treatment inside the vein (laser or radiofrequency) is one of the treatment options. A catheter is inserted into the diseased vein via ultrasound guidance to the groin or the back of the knee, and then local anesthesia is injected into the skin and around the vein up the leg. The vein is then heat-treated to destroy it. The varicose veins themselves are removed through small incisions that do not require stitches.
