In microsclerotherapy, a small amount of fluid is injected into the visible blood vessels with a very thin needle. The fluid irritates the vessel wall, causing the vessel to close and gradually disappear, while the body absorbs the residue like a bruise.
To ensure a lasting result, the preliminary examination assesses whether there are underlying varicose veins that should be treated first, as these can cause the spider veins to return.
What are spider veins?
Spider veins are small, thread-like veins that lie superficially in the skin. They typically appear purple or bluish and can vary in visibility. Spider veins are most commonly seen on the legs, but can also appear on the body or face.

The process usually takes 2-6 months, depending on the size of the vessel. To achieve the desired result, 1-3 treatments may be needed.
Treatment is performed by a specially trained nurse and does not require you to take time off work, exercise or travel.
After the treatment
There are generally no special precautions after treatment.
For slightly larger vessels, a dressing can be applied for approximately 24 hours to support healing. You can continue your daily activities as normal.
When sunbathing, it is recommended to protect the skin with regular sunscreen.
Larger vessels may temporarily darken after treatment because the blood in the vessel clots.
Results and follow-up
The spider veins will gradually disappear over weeks to months. If more treatment is needed on a treated area, this can be assessed after 8 weeks.
After 3-6 months, the results are assessed and additional treatments can be added if needed.
When treating larger vessels, a brownish coloring of the skin may occur due to iron in the blood. This is harmless and usually goes away on its own, but can take up to 12 months or more.
