Danish colorectal cancer patients have allegedly not been adequately informed about their rights to have surgery abroad if their surgery cannot take place within two weeks of accepting the offer of surgery. The legislation allows cancer patients to have surgery abroad if the so-called 'maximum waiting time' cannot be met.
Countries around the world are ready to help
Capio Privathospital is part of the French healthcare provider Ramsay Santé. In collaboration with our colleagues in France, we have investigated the possibility of helping the aforementioned group of colorectal cancer patients with quick access to surgery. It turns out that the vital and urgent surgeries can be performed at 45 of Ramsay Santé's hospitals across France.
We have now reached out to the Central Denmark Region to offer help to their patients so that they can be offered surgery abroad as soon as possible. We are also opening up to help with surgeries in several cancer areas abroad, so patients don't end up on waiting lists. As part of an international group, we offer to act as a link to our international colleagues who are ready to help Danish cancer patients.
Christian Bech Høngaard, CEO of Capio Privathospital in Denmark, talks about Danish patients' options for surgery abroad:
"The lack of capacity in the healthcare system is a challenge that calls for collaboration, not only in Denmark between public and private providers, but also in international collaboration. I am pleased that Capio, which is part of Ramsay Santé, has already been informed that our colleagues in France are ready to help Danish patients in urgent need of life-saving surgery. We have the expertise and capacity to help, but of course this requires that patients are properly informed about their rights and options for surgeries performed abroad".
Sofie Løhde will visit France
In May, Sofie Løhde will be visiting France together with our CEO, Christian Bech Høngaard, and representatives from Ramsay Santé and the French Ministry of Health. It is expected that international collaboration in the healthcare sector will be in focus, and it will be an obvious opportunity to discuss the possibilities of collaborating on the treatment of patients across national borders.
At Capio's nationwide hospitals, you will meet some of the country's most skilled and experienced specialists who work together to give you the best possible treatment. We guarantee you peace of mind and high quality and put you at the center every step of the way.
