Capio donates X-ray equipment to Albania

In connection with the replacement of Capio Hellerup's X-ray equipment with a new and more modern system, we have chosen to partner with the organization Global Medical Aid to donate the older but fully functional X-ray equipment to Albania.

"Equipment that we take for granted in hospitals in Denmark is not taken for granted in the world, and I am proud to be part of a company where a donation like this is a possibility. It is in our DNA and in the DNA of our parent organization, Ramsay Santé, to contribute where it is needed," says Christian Bech Høngaard, CEO of Capio.

"I'm a big believer in not just throwing things away when buying new things, but passing them on for others to benefit from. It was therefore natural for me to contact Global Medical Aid when we decided to invest in new X-ray equipment for the hospital in Hellerup."

 

Need for basic equipment

Global Medical Aid is a Danish humanitarian organization that collects usable medicine and functional equipment for the benefit of poor countries. Over the past 10 years, the organization has donated to 17 countries around the world.

"We are very pleased that Capio has chosen to donate the X-ray equipment to us and, by extension, to the Albanian healthcare system. There is a great need for medical equipment in Albania, where many hospitals and clinics do not have the very basic items needed to provide the very basic treatment to patients," says Hans Frederik Dydensborg, Chairman of Global Medical Aid.

"Something like a surgical light, for example, is not a given in an Albanian operating room. A surgeon we recently had in our warehouse told us how he sometimes had to operate with only the light from his cell phone. That's why we really appreciate Capio passing on the equipment, as it will make a huge difference for patients in Albania."

 

Fully functional X-ray equipment

The equipment donated by Capio is a manual X-ray machine with a digital developer. However, the fact that the X-ray equipment is older does not affect the quality of the X-ray images.

"The equipment works flawlessly, but there has been a lot of development in this field since we first installed the device. We have therefore decided to upgrade to a modern, purely digital system," explains Forough Sadolin, Chief Radiographer at Capio Hellerup.

The X-ray machine is now on its way to Albania's capital Tirana, where it will create value for both patients and healthcare professionals in the Albanian healthcare system.
