It can be difficult to know where to go when you suffer an injury. And as an elite athlete, it's even more important to get the right treatment quickly so you can get back on your feet as soon as possible. With the help of both professionals and the personal experiences of others, Simon Hald chose Capio Viborg and surgeon Søren Kjeldsen.
"After my injury was diagnosed, I had a dialog with my German doctors and my mother, who also works in the hospital system. She contacted Steen Bo Kalms (specialist in orthopaedic surgery at Capio Viborg and Skørping and former doctor for the Danish national men's handball team, ed.) to ask him what he would recommend if I were to have the surgery in Denmark," says Simon and continues:
"I talked to Steen a few times, and he recommended that I had the surgery done by Søren Kjeldsen. It was also important for my club that it was done by a doctor who had performed this kind of surgery on elite athletes before, and Søren had. I also know other athletes and private individuals who have had the same operation performed by Søren and Capio Viborg, and they also had only good things to say. That's why I felt comfortable having it done by Søren."
A positive experience under the circumstances
Having surgery is an experience most people would rather not have. At Capio, we do our utmost to ensure that your visit to us is a positive experience where the patient is at the center of every part of the process. We asked Simon how he experienced the treatment process at Capio Viborg:
"All in all, I had a really good experience before, during and after the surgery. Søren has had a good dialog with my German doctors in the club before the surgery, and I was treated really well by the entire staff at the surgery. So I have to say that I have had a positive experience at Capio under the circumstances."
At Capio, we are of course both happy and proud that Simon chose to undergo surgery with us. We wish Simon a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him on the handball court again!
Briefly about cruciate ligament surgery
ACL surgery does not require an overnight stay, but is performed as a so-called same-day surgical hospitalization. Here, the patient arrives on the day of surgery, is prepped and undergoes surgery. After surgery, the nursing staff monitor the patient and once the nurses have seen that all numbers are stable, the patient is comfortable and the doctor has seen and spoken to the patient, the patient is sent home with instructions on how to proceed.
The goal of ACL reconstruction, where the surgeon rebuilds or sutures the torn ACL, is to stabilize the knee joint. At Capio, we perform two types of ACL surgery, which you can read more about here.
