Skin never forgets

Sun damage to the skin cannot be repaired. Read here what precautions we recommend you take to avoid skin damage.

On one summer day, there can be more harmful rays in the sun than in the whole of December and January combined! It is mainly the short ultraviolet rays (UVB) that cause acute damage (burning) and thus early aging of the skin.

If you have the most common Danish skin type, you will be able to be in the sun for about 1 hour in the spring without turning red and a little less time in the summer. Unfortunately, the skin never forgets and sun damage to the skin cannot be repaired. It is therefore important to protect your skin from the harmful rays.

Three pieces of advice

We probably all know them - the advice we should follow when the sun comes out - but we'll repeat them anyway:

  1. Half of all harmful rays are found between 12 pm and 3 pm! Therefore, limit your exposure to the sun as much as possible during this time
     
  2. All clothing provides good sun protection! Loose-fitting and tightly woven cotton clothing is especially good at protecting against harmful rays. Give your skin a break from the sun by covering your shoulders with a t-shirt from time to time or shielding your scalp from the sun with a hat or scarf
     
  3. Use plenty of sunscreen - preferably a high factor - and apply several times throughout the day. Both UVA and UVB rays influence the formation of skin cancer, so it's important to use a sunscreen that protects against both. If you've had surgery within a year, it's also extra important to protect your scar with a high SPF to reduce the risk of scar discoloration
