Yesterday, Danish Regions presented that the public sector's use of private capacity has increased by 12% in 2023 compared to 2022. In addition, it is emphasized by Danish Regions that this has led to falling waiting lists in the public sector, so that they now exactly meet the temporary extended treatment guarantee of 60 days on average. However, the stated waiting time is just an average and according to publicly available waiting times for treatment, this is still significantly above 60 days in several regions and for different types of treatment.
At Capio Privathospital, we do not recognize Danske Regioner's message. It is true that patients are increasingly being referred to private hospitals for examination in order to reduce waiting times, but unfortunately, we also see that patients are not approved to complete their course of treatment at private hospitals. Patients are sent back to the public hospital's waiting list after examination to have their surgery. Often to the great inconvenience and frustration of the patient. Here they can risk waiting up to 60 days and in some cases longer for treatment. At the same time, several Danish private hospitals, including Capio, are left with unused capacity. Can Danes be satisfied with this? The Danish private hospitals have just lowered their prices at the conclusion of the emergency agreement at the beginning of the year to help the public sector utilize all capacity in the Danish healthcare sector to reduce waiting lists.
In recent years, there has been a growing trend for more and more people to take out health insurance. Today, up to 46% of Denmark's population has the option to activate their health insurance. With health insurance, you will often be guaranteed treatment within 10 working days. What is the incentive for policyholders not to take advantage of this and thus ensure faster treatment times? Will Danish Regions contribute to widening the gap between Danes who have health insurance and those who do not?
We therefore call for the public sector to use the unused capacity and ensure a good patient journey by allowing private hospitals to complete the entire patient journey, as they have done in the past. This also reduces the risk of discrimination in Denmark.
At Capio's nationwide hospitals, you will meet some of the country's most skilled and experienced specialists who work together to give you the best possible treatment. We guarantee you peace of mind and high quality and put you at the center every step of the way.
