When the British National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) approved ultrasound-guided foam treatment of varicose veins in 2005, Jes Sanddal Lindholt went to the Vein Institute in London to learn and implemented the treatment as the first in Denmark at Viborg Hospital and shortly after at Viborg Private Hospital. Later at the Vein Clinic in Nyborg. Over the years, Jes has treated more than 1000 patients and gained extensive experience with the treatment.
When the Danish National Board of Health changed the recommendations for varicose vein treatment in 2009 to the effect that surgical treatment should only be performed when other endovascular options have been exhausted, Jes developed a two-phase treatment that largely made surgical treatment unnecessary.

Additional areas of expertise have been gained through Jes' primary research area: Aortic aneurysm and prevention of cardiovascular disease. Through large preventive population studies, most recently VIVA and DANCAVAS, he has gained great insight into these obstructions and atherosclerosis in the legs and is internationally recognized.

Jes received the Odd Fellow Researcher Award in 2016 after a joint nomination from the University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University and the University of Southern Denmark.
