For the first 24 hours after an arthroscopic surgery, the knee is often swollen and you limp a little, but it gets better day by day. For the first 24 hours, you can place an ice pack around the knee for ½ hour several times a day. The ice pack should not be in direct contact with the skin, but can be wrapped in a tea towel or similar. When the swelling has subsided after 1-2 weeks and you can move your knee normally, you can start walking and then running shorter distances, unless you have been told otherwise.
After surgery, your knee will be bandaged to protect the small wounds. You can remove the bandage after 1 day. Then put on the patches you brought home. Cover the bandage with plastic when bathing. If you develop a fever after the operation or if the course of the operation differs in any other way from that described above, contact your department as soon as possible.
